ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka will begin vaccinating export zone workers from July 01, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, who was recently made technology minister, has said following a meeting at Koggala Export Promotion Zone.
The Ministry of Health had given the go ahead to vaccinate export workers after the urgency of the matter was discussed, Minister Rajapaksa had said.
Vaccination with the first does is scheduled to begin from July 01, covering export industrial zones including, Koggala he had said.
About 12,480 persons were employed in the zone.
There were 21 industries at the Koggala Export Processing Zone in apparel, electronics and rubber.
The zone had a difficulties in getting water, which required to be solved, Minister Rajapaksa had said.
Minister Rajapaksa, who is Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son has been taking an increasingly more responsibilities and has been appointed to an economic task force in May.
Vaccines have varies rates of efficacy, especially against new straints, but most are expected to prevent death. (Colombo/June14/2021)
