Sri Lanka tourist arrivals flat in November 2017
ECONOMYNEXT – Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka were flat in November edging up just 0.2 percent to 167,511, helped by East Asia and India, while most generating markets, including Europe were down.
In the 11-months to November arrivals were up only 2.5 percent to 1.871 million.
East Asian arrivals were up 142 percent in November with China up 3.5 percent to 19,237, Japan up 13.4 percent to 38,404.
China, which became Sri Lanka’s second biggest market with up to 80 percent growth in recent years, was down 1 percent to 249,718 up to November 2017.
Indonesia grew 209 percent to 3,795, Malaysia grew 28.9 percent to 2,686 Philippines grew 32.2 percent to 1,624.
Korea grew 26.8 percent to 1,757 but Singapore fell 3.2 percent to 1,900.
Sri Lanka’s largest generating market India, grew 6.9 percent to 32,243 in November with total arrivals during the year up 5.7 percent to 336,840. Maldives fell 17.8 percent to 8,165.
Australasian arrivals rose 23.7 percent to 6,779. (Colombo/Dec07/2017)
