ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals rose 16 percent from a year earlier to 167,217 in November 2016, with India, China and Western Europe showing strong growth data from the tourism promotion office showed.
Arrivals from India rose 2.8 percent to 30,148 with total up to November rising 13.5 percent to 318,784.
Chinese visitors grew 10.5 percent to 18,590, with the total up to November growing 26.8 percent to 252,259.
Western Europe grew 16.4 percent to 46,565 in November with the total up to November growing 17.4 percent to 574,978.
UK arrivals were up 23 percent to 13,337 with the total going up 17 percent to 167,713.
Visitors from Germany was up 10.6 percent to 11,172 and visitors from France was up 3.6 percent to 5,845.
Total arrivals up to November rose 14.7 percent to 1.826 million.
Sri Lanka is on track to exceed two million arrivals this year but may fall short of expectation of 2.2 million visitors. Last December Sri Lanka got more than 200,000 visitors. (Colombo/Dec06/2016)
