ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lankans have been warned to stay home for the next two weeks as a post-New Year Coronavirus wave sent daily Covid-19 detections to 969 with younger patients developing pneumonia and filling up intensive care units.
On April 23, 969 Coronavirus cases were confirmed, the Health Ministry said, which includes expatriate returnees.
The state information office said there were 931 domestic cases by 9.20 pm Friday.
Health officials asked the public to stay home to protect their lives and those of their loved ones.
Sri Lanka’s military chief Shavendra Silva, who heads the country’s anti-Coronavirus task for asked people to stay at home and cancel any celebrations and trips planned over the weekend.
The authorities were not imposing a lockdown but people should behave intelligently.
Sri Lanka’s total Coronavirus confirmed cases rose to 99,691 on April 23.
Sri Lanka’s daily cases were under 150 in March though there have been concerns that testing was going down. (Colombo/Apr24/2021)
