ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s public holiday declared for Monday March 16 as an anti-Coronavirus measure will not apply to the wholesale, retail trade and external trade, Information Minister Bandula Gunewardene said.
“There is the export industry and a lot of goods have also been imported for the New Year season,” Minister Gunewardene said.
“The Pettah wholesale trade and retail shops will also operate.
“Good will continue to be supplied.”
He said the holiday on Monday should be used to disinfect public transport and hostels.
“Nobody should use the holiday to go on trips around the country,” Minister Gunewardana said.
The government has asked private firms also to declare Monday as a holiday. (Colombo/Mar15/2020)
