Sri Lankan accounting body supports Maldives Auditor General’s office
ECONOMYNEXT – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) is to provide training and technical assistance to the Auditor General’s Office of the Maldives.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two organisations, CA Sri Lanka will work to strengthen and develop the accounting and auditing profession in the Maldives.
The Auditor General of Maldives Hassan Ziyath said that the agreement marks the building of a strong foundation for the development of the accounting and audit profession in the Maldives.
“The Auditor General’s Office is integral to the development of accounting and auditing profession in the Maldives,” he said.
“The demand for both public sector and private sector accounting and audit professionals is on the rise, and compromising on quality should not be acceptable by any means.”
CA Sri Lanka said it will offer its expertise particularly in relation to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Standards on Auditing (ISA) and to set up a professional accountancy institute in the Maldives.
Early this year, CA Sri Lanka also offered advice to facilitate the setting up of a professional accountancy body and to also introduce IFRS to public and corporate sectors in Bhutan. (Colombo/September 9 2015)
