Sri Lankan coal power plant fly ash for brick production
ECONOMYNEXT – Fly ash from Sri Lanka’s Norochcholai power plant burning coal to generate electricity will be used to make bricks and reduce air pollution, the government announced.
The state information office said the Cabinet of ministers this week approved a proposal for brick production by Ranjith Siyambalapiiya, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy.
Brick production will be done at the site of the power plant on the north-west coast, a statement said.
The ash is now collected and stored on site.
Residents near the power plant have been complaining for months of fly ash air pollution at times of high winds.
