Sri Lanka’s CPC refinery manager promoted as MD
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s petroleum ministry said Neil Jayasekara, a long serving career officer of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has been appointed the managing director.
Jayasekara had been Manager (Refinery) position for 7 years.
He was appointed as an engineer (A division) of the CPC on 03rd August, 1981, and joined the corporation after graduating from Peradeniya University.
Petroleum Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said in a statement that a process of internal promotion was followed after he became minister, instead of bringing in outsiders as has been the recent practice.
"There should be a procedure in every institution, which allows their workers to rise to the higher positions," he said.
"Earlier, this procedure has not operated in CPC and we changed it."
The CPC has had governance problems with executive chairmen with no experience running the state enterprise and changing with ministerial appointments.
Ranatunga’s brother is currently the chairman of the CPC. (Colombo/Dec27/2017)
