Sri Lanka’s fuel QR system upgraded; multiple company vehicles under single-BRN

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has updated its fuel quota QR system to issue fuel to multiple business vehicles registered under a single Business Registration Number, the power and energy minister said.

“Government Institutes, Organizations & Businesses can Now register Multiple vehicles with One mobile number or multiple mobile numbers under One Business Registration Number,” Kanchana Wijesekera, Minister for Power and Energy said in a Tweet.

Government institutes will be given guidelines on BRNs assigned to them, he said.

Guidelines according to –

– Under Nic number create a Unique code for your Institute (Numeric or Alphabetical) and this should be consistent for every vehicle profile.

– Any Commercial/Government ministry or institution/NGO/ Clubs etc to register under BRN category.

– Select BRN and follow the registration process.

– Each vehicle registered requires a unique mobile number to be assigned.

Although the guideline on the website mandates a unique mobile number is required, ministry officials say one mobile number will be accepted for all the vehicles registered under one BRN.

After several methods to control the fuel queues and manage the limited stock of fuel in the country, Sri Lanka introduced a QR code system that seems to have reduced the month-long queues within a few weeks.
