Sri Lanka’s Hambantota port sees more vehicle transshipment
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port, operated joint venture with China’s CM Ports said it is seeing higher volumes of vehicle transshipment with long term deals being struck with shipping lines.
This week 6 roll-on-roll-off car carriers had called at the port and four vessels were discharging vehicles at the same time, the firm said.
The vessels were from Hoegh, NYK and Glovis, with whom Hambantota port has terminal services
By November the port had handled a million metric tonnes of cargo, the company said.
Last year it had handled 494,000 metric tonnes of cargo. (Colombo/Dec05/2019)
