Sri Lanka’s MAGA-ECL says completes green tech campus complex ahead of schedule
ECONOMYNEXT – Colombo-based Maga Engineering said it had completed technology faculty complex for Sri Lanka’s Sri Jayewardenepura University five months of ahead of schedule, which had been designed using eco-friendly principles by Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd.
The Faculty of Technology complex is made of a 600-seat capacity auditorium, administration building, lecture rooms, laboratories, conference rooms, staff areas, and common amenities maximizing natural views, light and ventilation.
A rainwater harvesting system will provide irrigation and reduce operating costs.
Clay tiles with low absorption and “organic and natural” colours had been used, MAGA Engineering said.
“The project showcases our strength in delivering large-scale building projects – we were able to complete the project in March 2020, five months ahead-of-schedule,” Chairman of MAGA Engineering M G Kularatne said in a statement.
The building complex was completed in March 2020, and opened by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on June 08.
The technology faculty will teach industry-focused, practical-oriented education, preparing undergraduates for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The University of Sri Jayewardenepura had started the Faculty of Technology project in 2016 in the fields of Engineering Technology, Biosystems Technology, and Information Communication Technology (ICT). (SB-Colombo/June10/2020)
