Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 cases at 151; officials say 225 tested yesterday

COMMUNITY TESTING: Sri Lanka is making plans to make sample Coronavirus tests on people who are not in hospital, the Head of the health service Anil Jasinghe said.

ECONOMYNEXT – With one new patient confirmed today, Sri Lanka’s number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen to 151 as of 5.15pm.

Health Services Director General Dr Anil Jasinghe said in a statement that around 225 people were tested yesterday as well as people who had been in contact with confirmed patients before they began to show symptoms.

He added that 21 COVID-19 patients have recovered and left the hospital so far.

Jasinghe told a privately run TV network yesterday that Sri Lanka aims to keep infections below 500 in April with restrictions on the movement of people and brining in increased testing of high risk groups and the wider population.

Statistical projections had indicated 130 patients by April 4, but that number has already been exceeded, he said. (Colombo/April3/2020)
