SriLankan aircraft wet-leased to PIA diverted with RAF escort
ECONOMYNEXT – An aircraft leased to Pakistan International Airlines, operated by SriLankan crew was diverted on route to London and landed with Royal Air Force escort following an alert over a passenger.
The airline said British authorities requested the aircraft to be diverted to Stansted, where the passenger was arrested.
The Captain had requested the baggage of the passenger to be identified.
"Due to the London Heathrow curfew and crew time limitation regulations, it was not possible for the aircraft to be ferried to London Heathrow on the same day," the airline said.
"It was therefore decided to ferry the aircraft to London Heathrow on the morning of following day 8th February. The passengers were transported to London by road transportation."
