SriLankan Airlines bans exploding Samsung phones
ECONOMYNEXT – State-run SriLankan Airlines said it had banned the use or charging of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on its flights following similar restrictions on the exploding phone by other airline and regulators.
The phone also cannot be taken on checked baggage.
Buyers of some new Samsung phone found them catching fire or exploding, leading a 2.5 million phone recall.
The phones have a built in battery with a capacity of 3,500 milliampere hours – enough energy to keep the phone running for nine hours – but a manufacturing defect is believed to cause the battery to discharge, generating heat. (Colombo/Sept15/2016)
