ECONOMYNEXT – SriLankan Airlines, the flag carrier of the island, is set to operate direct flights to Paris, France, thrice a week every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from November 1, an official said.
“The new route is indicative of our continuous commitment to enhance our network and the travel experience of passengers both in France and around the world,” SriLankan Airlines Chairman Ashok Pathirage said in a statement on Monday (06).
“This new service will allow leisure and business travelers alike to travel to and from Paris non-stop and reach their destination in less time.”
Pathirage said this is a new opportunity to grow SriLankan’s presence and promote the island as a travel destination.
Non-stop flights from a fleet of Airbus A330-300 aircraft will fly between Colombo‛s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and France‛s Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), the statement said.
Airbus A330-300 aircraft is a 269 economy and 28 business class seater with a total flying time of 11 hours and 25 minutes.
Flight schedules are as follows:
Flight UL563 is scheduled to depart Colombo at 00:35 hrs and arrive in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at 07:30 hrs.
The return flight UL564 is scheduled to depart Paris on the same day at 14:30 hrs and arrive in Colombo at 05:20 hrs the next day.
SriLankan Airlines suspended its operations to Paris in November 2016 but operated provisional passenger and cargo flights during the pandemic in July and September 2020.
“Paris is a hub for the rest of Europe, and direct flights will boost tourist arrivals during the winter season,” SriLankan Airlines’ CEO Vipula Gunatilleka said.
The air carrier also resumed direct flights to Moscow, Russia on July 31st after a six year sabbatical.
An Airbus A330-300, which has 269 seats in economy class and 28 seats in business class operates weekly scheduled flights every Friday between BIA and Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport (DME).
The frequency of operation is once a week with a flight time of around 08 hours and 25minutes.
Flight UL533 that depart Colombo at 22:20 hrs, landing at Moscow Domodedovo Airport at 04:30 hrs, with the return leg UL534 leaving Moscow at 19:15 hrs the next day and landing back into Colombo at 06:05 hrs on Sunday.
SriLankan Airlines became the first in the region to be awarded a ‘diamond’ rating from the Airline Passengers Experience Association (APEX) and SimpliFlying, for extra safety measures and hygiene precautions taken during the pandemic. (Colombo/Sep06/2021)
