SriLankan employs some staff of grounded budget carrier
ECONOMYNEXT – State-run SriLankan Airlines had employed 50 cabin crew from Mihin Lanka, a loss-making vanity airline started by ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa and branded with a diminutive of his own name.
SriLankan Airlines took over several routes operated by Mihin Lanka from October 29, adding Seychelles, Bahrain, Muscat, Jakarta, Madurai, Kolkata, Lahore, Dhaka, Varanasi and Bodh Gaya to its network.
"The induction of Mihin staff to SriLankan is being carried out according to SriLankan’s recruitment processes with constant dialogue between SriLankan’s management and Mihin employees," the airline said.
"All Mihin Lanka staff members who are not offered the opportunity to join SriLankan will be provided a service severance package according to specified government guidelines, details of which have already been shared with all employees of Mihin Lanka."
SriLankan itself is making losses and it cutting down on European routes and expanding South and East Asian frequencies under a regional strategy. (Colombo/Nov07/2016)
