Stocks close 0.41-pct higher
ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks closed 0.41 percent higher for the third week on index heavy stocks in Lion Brewery Ceylon, Distilleries Holdingsand John Keells Holdings Plc, interim reports showed.
Colombo’s main, All Share Price Index gained 22.10 points to 5,382.38.
ASPI opened the day on a positive note and continued to increase before stumbling to
reach the intra-days lowest 5,363.81and picked up to close marginally high.
S&P SL20 index of most liquid stocks gained 1.00 percent or 23.74 points to 2,395.61.
Market turnover reached 1.8 billion rupees while 88 stocks made gains and 76 stocks made losses.
Crossing or negotiated trade in the market too contributed to the market turnover.
Two crossingamounted to 93 million rupees was seen in John Keells Holdings at 133.80 rupees per share and 134.50 rupees per share.
Another crossing was seen in Sampath Bank amounted to 127 million rupees at 127.00 rupees per share and the stock closed 50 cents down at 126.50 rupees per share.
Capital goods industry sector contributed most to the ASPI gain.
Lion Brewery Ceylon contributed most to ASPI’s gain, trading 56.20 rupees up at 576.20 rupees a share.
Other stocks which contributed to ASPI’s gain were Distilleries Company Plc up by 70 cents to close at 15.30 rupees a share while John Keells Holdings Plc gained 1.60 rupee to close at 134.90 rupees a share. (Colombo/Aug 21/2020)
