Strong winds across southwestern coast
Heavy rains or thundershowers together with an increase in wind speeds of up to 70-80 kmh can be expected in the southwestern coastal areas from Colombo to Hambanthota via Galle, the Department of Meteorology said.
Issuing an advisory today (29), the Met Department said that the situation was caused due to “active cloudiness” in the southwestern seas.
Showers are also expected to increase to some extent over the southwestern part of the island.
Heavy rainfall of about 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, the Met Department said.
In its statement, the Department urged naval and fishing communities to be vigilant for rough seas and sudden changes in the weather.
