Supreme Court Justice Prasanna Jayawardena passes away
Supreme Court Justice Prasanna Jayawardena PC passed away this morning in a private hospital in Colombo.
In his illustrious career, Jayawardena served in several positions of importance since being named a President’s Counsel in 2012, including Deputy President of the Sri Lanka Bar Association. He took oaths as a Supreme Court justice in June 2016.
Jayawardena rose to particular prominence in 2017 when, as a member of the three-member Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate the alleged bond scam, his witticisms and sharply critical pronouncements received much media attention.
Jayawardena also served as a visiting lecturer in Commerical Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo.
He was at 63 at the time of his death.
