Sustainable farming certification urged for Sri Lankan exporters
COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said it is encouraging Sri Lankan export firms to go for certification programs for sustainable fisheries and agriculture given growing demand from international buyers.
Already 17 fishing companies have got Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, it said in a statement.
Agriculture exporters can get their products certified as produced through sustainable agriculture and farming by the Friend of the Earth, a non-profit organization based in Milan, Italy, it said.
"Friend of the Earth is rapidly growing as the leading international eco label for sustainable agriculture production."
The chamber said it will hold a workshop for exporters on international certification of sustainable agriculture and farming with the Friend of the Earth organisation on May 11.
