The Government will provide comprehensive training to all untrained teachers and Sri Lanka’s school system will be upgraded to be the best system in Asia in terms of quality of education and technology, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
Addressing a ceremony held at National College of Education in Peradeniya yesterday (4 July), the Prime Minister said the teacher service will only comprise trained teachers, diploma holders and graduates hereafter.
“When this Government was elected, the country had a large number of untrained teachers. We have provided them with comprehensive training. Only 5,000 teachers are remaining to be trained,” Wickremesinghe said.
The Prime Minister further said that Sri Lanka needs a tech savvy generation to build a new country and the Government’s responsibility is to fulfill that task.
“If we are to mould a new generation who can keep abreast with the advancement of technology, then schoolchildren should be armed with new technological knowledge,” Wickremesinghe added.
