Thailand to promote tourism to Sri Lanka after Easter Sunday attack

ECONOMYNEXT- The Tourism Authority of Thailand will stand in solidarity with Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attack, and promote bilateral tourism with the local tourism promotions office, a statement said.
 
"Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand accompanied by a group of outbound travel agents and journalists is to visit Sri Lanka shortly," a statement from the Sri Lankan Tourism Development Ministry said.
 
"The visit is to express solidarity with Sri Lanka and help revive the country’s tourism industry," it said.
 
"A Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed between Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote bilateral tourism during the Governor’s visit to the island."
 
The delegation will visit Sri Lanka from June 27-29, after an invitation made by Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, John Amaratunga during an official visit to Thailand last week. 
 
At a travel trade show in Thailand, Amaratunga thanked Thailand for not imposing any travel restrictions after the Easter Sunday attacks and noted that the first group of tourists to arrive in Sri Lanka after the tragic events was a Thai pilgrim group, the statement said.
 
He had also met three high profile Buddhist monks during the visit, including the Deputy Sangarajah of Thailand, Most Venerable Somdej Phra Dheerayanamuni, who will visit Sri Lanka at end-June with a group of 50 monk and 150 layment, accepting an invitation made by the minister.
