Thousands of ‘Varsity students quit because of ragging – Sirisena
President Maithripala Sirisena says that between 10 and 12 per cent of new University students quit and return home because of unbearable ragging.
He also said that he had received many letters with photos of naked students and descriptions of the inhuman torture these freshmen students have endured.
President Sirisena made these remarks yesterday (15 Aug) at the opening ceremony of SMART Sri Lanka Career Guidance Center for Kandy District in Katugastota.
Further, Sirisena said that according to a new social survey it has been found out that 70 per cent of new Sri Lankan marriages fail and some couples separated shortly after getting married.

He also said “Everyone should unite to build a better country and a better future by identifying the problems of the country while ensuring the freedom and democracy that prevails in the country,”
