Three arrested for trying to buy polling cards are Rajitha’s supporters – CMEV
ECONOMYNEXT- Several people caught trying to buy polling cards from voters in Beruwela are supporters of Samagi Jana Balawegaya Kalutara district candidate Rajitha Senaratne, the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said.
Police arrested three people who were allegedly offering Rs 5,000 cash for polling cards in Mulliyamale Beruwala.
“CMEV can confirm an incident of 3 supporters of Colombo district SJB candidate Rajitha Senaratne offering money in exchange for voters’ poll cards in Mulliyamale, Beruwala on Aug 4. They have been arrested by Beruwala Police,” the tweet from the Official Twitter Account of CMEV said this morning.
Meanwhile, Rohana Hettiarachchi of the other election watchdog People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections, (PAFFREL) told reporters this morning that no major incidents had been reported until about 10:00 am.
“There was an attempt to distribute pens and handbills, but overall it has been peaceful,” he said.
He urged voters to come to the polling stations and exercise their franchise. (Colombo/Aug5/2020)
