Three-member Police committee gets complaints against Bathiudeen, Hizbullah and Salley
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said that four complaints have been received by the three-member committee set up to investigate allegations against two former Governors a former Minister.
The men being investigated are Governors M L A M Hisbullah, and Asath Salley and former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.
At a media briefing held yesterday (6) at the Ministry of Defence, Gunasekara said that three out of four complaints received are against Bathiudeen and the other against Salley.
He said that a lawyer and a Buddhist monk are among the complainants against Bathiudeen.
“The special committee will continue to receive complaints against them till 12 June,” he added
Gunasekara also said that regarding the investigations against Doctor Mohamed Shafi the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recorded statements from 421 women, 26 doctors including 6 Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, 69 nurses and 18 hospital staff.
“Doctor Shafi will be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate courts on 27 June and CID will produce a report with the statements recorded to the courts on that day,” he said
A special committee headed by the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer was established to conduct medical checkups of the 421 women who had lodged complaints against doctor Shafi.
