Total COVID 19 patients rises to 751 at midnight as 33 more are diagnosed
ECONOMYNEXT -The number of COVID 19 patients rose by 33 yesterday as the eighth death from the disease was recorded, the Health Ministry said.
In its daily report the Epidemiological Unit of the Ministry’s situation report noted that the total number of cases is now 751 as of mid-night last night.
No details have been released up to now as to where these cases were detected.
The deceased was a 72-woman patient who passed away at the Homagama special unit for COVID 19 patients.
The massive surge in patients that occurred between April 22 and April 30 resulted from rampant infections in the Sri Lanka Navy camp at Welisara.
The total news cases detected during that period were 407 patients and of them 324 are from the Sri Lanka Navy. They include family members and close associates of the Navy Personnel who travelled to their hometowns after being granted leave.
The infection appears to have spread rapidly in the camp and currently, 134 patients are being treated in the Navy Hospital.
Many of the Navy cases as asymptomatic, as younger physically fit patients typically do not become sick although they are contagious. (Colombo May 05, 2020)
