Total number of COVID 19 patients from the Kandakadu cluster goes to 604

ECONOMYNEXT – Five new COVID-19 patients were reported in Sri Lanka as at 6 am today, the government said.

One of the patients is a staff member at the Kandakadu Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and another is a detainee at the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre.

The other 3 patients are returnees from India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

With the new cases, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has increased to 2,839 with 291 active cases and 68 currently under observation in hospitals.

With thirteen new recoveries as at 6 am this morning, total recoveries have increased to 2,537.

The 13 recoveries include 05 from quarantine centres while 08 were returnees from abroad.

The number of COVID-19 patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 604, with 483 detainees, 67 staff members, five invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the Welikada prison patient found positive for the virus.

Further, 25 Sri Lankans are expected to return during the day aboard special flights: 08 from Doha and 17 from Chennai, India are expected to return today.

NOCPOC said that all the returnees will be directed to quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces upon their arrivals.

A total of 1,937 are currently undergoing the quarantine process in 33 quarantine centres controlled by the tri-forces. (Colombo/Aug 06/2020)
