Tourist from China tests positive for coronavirus in Sri Lanka
ECONOMYNEXT – A tourist who had arrived in Sri Lanka from China’s Hubei province has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (nCov), a senior health official said.
The woman who was in her 40s had been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Colombo with fever on the 25th.
“She has tested positive for coronavirus,” the official said.
Samples are being send abroad for further tests but she was being treated as a coronavirus patient, he said.
Sri Lanka’s Health Promotions Bureau asked the public not to panic.
“Exercise caution, this is not the time to panic,” the bureau said.
To protect against the disease the public was asked to follow the following steps.
1. Wash hands with soap and water of alcohol rub
2. Cover mouth when coughing or use tissue and dispose of them safely
3. If you went abroad recently and feel feverish see a doctor and also inform about your trip.
Sri Lanka is flying back over 800 nationals in China with state-run SriLankan Airlines giving half price tickets.
Sri Lanka said it has also sought permission to land a plane in Wuhan to evacuate a group of students stuck there. (Colombo/Jan27/2020)
