Travel Agents Association of India confab in Sri Lanka in solidarity
ECONOMYNEXT – The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) will hold its annual convention in November in Sri Lanka to express solidarity following Easter Sunday bombings, the island’s tourist development agency said.
Sri Lanka’s tourism arrivals plunged 60 percent in May after suicide bombings by an Islamist extremist group in April.
Sri Lanka’s tourism minister John Amaratunga had invited TAAI, after Easter Sunday suicide bombings.
India is Sri Lanka’s top source of tourists and Indian tourists have been leading the recovery in arrivals.
Sri Lanka’s Tourism Development Authority quoted TAAI President Sunil Kumar as saying that the managing committee of the association had met on September 30, and approved the holding on the convention in Colombo as a ‘expression of solidariy’.
