ECONOMYNEXT – The United Arab Emirates has removed a rapid COVID-19 PCR requirement for inbound travellers from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and some other nations in the region.
A six-hour rapid PCR test was required for passengers departing from countries in the region.
“The six-hour pre-departure rapid PCR is withdrawn. However, the standard 48-hour test is still a requirement,” Shehan Sumanasekara, Director Operations (all airports) at Airport & Aviation Services told EconomyNext.
Last August, UAE authorities mandated two PCRs , a six-hour one and a 48-hour one, to enter the country.
Sri Lanka is seeing an average departure per day of about 7,000 people while arrivals are about 5,000.
Inbound and outbound are both in the range of 13,000-14,000 the official said. (Colombo/Feb23/2022)
