Udayanga Weeratunge to be bailed out in MIG case
ECONOMYNEXT – Udayanga Weeratunge the former Ambassador now charged in connection with the allegedly fraudulent purchase of MIG fighter jets for the Sri Lanka Air Force will be bailed out shortly.
Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake acceded to Weereatunge’s lawyer’s request for bail which is to be granted on a later date.
The accused is currently warded in the National Hospital in Colombo.
Weerathunga was arrested in February is accused of unlawfully interfering with the purchase of seven MiG ground attack aircraft for the Sri Lanka Air Force from Ukraine, and embezzling millions of US dollars through the deal. (Colombo, April 3, 2020)
