UK tightens travel advisory to Sri Lanka
ECONOMYNEXT – United Kingdom has tightened a travel advisory to Sri Lanka saying telling citizens to avoid all but essential travel to Sri Lanka following Islamist bombings on Easter Sunday and suspicious that more members of the group are running loose.
"Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Sri Lanka," UK’s foreign and commonwealth office saod.
"Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners."
Britain is the second largest tourist source market for Sri Lanka generating 254,000 or 11 percent arrivals out of a total of 2.33 million in 2018, after India.
Sri Lanka has said it had tightened security around tourist sites. Authorities are looking for remaining members of the
Islamist group that carried out the Easter Sunday attacks.
Up to 253 persons had been killed, health authorities said, revising down an earlier count of 359. (Colombo/Apr27/2019-SB)
