‘Unhealthy’ Colombo air back to moderate level
The air quality of Colombo, which was recorded as ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ this morning (14), has gone up to a ‘moderate level’ by the afternoon, National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) Air Quality Studies Senior Scientist H. D. S. Premasiri said.
Speaking to RepublicNext, Premasiri said that the prevailing condition is a result of weather patterns experienced by the country at present.
“Air quality especially becomes unhealthy during rush hour due to vehicle emissions. Therefore, it is likely that Colombo air quality gets unhealthy in the morning and evening,” Premasiri said, noting that it’s unrelated to the situation in New Delhi.
Airvisual.com recorded the air quality of Colombo as 165 Air Quality Index (AQI) earlier today whereas as of 4pm today it was recorded as 97 AQI.
