UNP complains to EC about Sajith’s helicopter incident

United National Party (UNP) has complained to the Elections Commission about the incident when power was shut off at the landing site in Kurunegala forcing the helicopter carrying Sajith Premadasa to abort the night landing yesterday Oct 30.

Premadasa was scheduled to address a rally in Kurunegala yesterday when the incident took place. He had to cancel his appearance at the meeting because of this incident, the party said at a press conference today.

Naveen Hettiyadurage, a lawyer representing the UNP told reporters that the party requests the Elections Commissioner to carry out a proper investigation in this regard.

“We have received information that this was done intentionally. Therefore, we have lodged a complaint to the Elections Commission and we request them to carry out a proper investigation. Especially we got to know that a certain mayor and a powerful politician is involved in the matter,” Hettiyadurage said.

Meanwhile, the Chief Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said this morning that he did not receive such complaint.
