Upcountry Tamil voters are with us – Navin
Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake is confident that although Arumugam Thondaman and his party are supporting Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Tamil voters of the hill-country will only vote for Sajith Premadasa.
In a meeting held in Kotmale yesterday (14 Oct), Dissanayake, who is the National Organiser of the UNP, said even though Thodaman would ask his constituency to vote for Rajapaksa, the people will not listen to him as they have already decided to make Premadasa the president.
Speaking later at another meeting in Nuwara Eliya he said that as Minister Palani Digambaram and he have joined hands in the Nuwara Eliya district there would be no room for the SLPP and SLFP.
Dissanayaka further said that some SLFP members in the district already having talks with the UNP had said that they would be joining the UNP-led alliance in the coming week.
He added this is the first time a UNP candidate is running for a presidential election since 2005 as they had to go with neutral candidates in 2010 and 2015.
This time it is a son of a leader who had done much for the downtrodden that is running for President, said Dissanayake, and not a “parachuter” like opposition candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
