US will support Sri Lanka in counter-terrorism, maritime and border security- Trump
US President Donald Trump has said that the United States will work with Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday and support Sri Lanka in counterterrorism, maritime and border security.
The President’s statement was made after welcoming Sri Lanka’s new ambassador to US Rodney M. Perera.
Ambassador Perera presented his signed credentials to US President Trump at the White House Oval Office on Monday (08).
Further the US President also stressed the importance of working together to strengthen relations between the two countries, which share a common commitment to democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
He also commended Sri Lanka’s commitment to promoting reconciliation, accountability and justice in order to achieve lasting peace after the civil conflict.
Ambassador Perera while presenting best wishes from the Sri Lankan President, Government and the people of Sri Lanka to President Trump explained that the Government of Sri Lanka is committed to strengthening faith-based relationships and strengthening the institutions essential to the sustainable progress of a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-religious nation.
He has also added that the main objective of the Government of Sri Lanka and its people is to maintain a strong multilateral relationship with the United States, including strengthening trade and economic ties, expanding public relations and promoting international and internal peace and security.
