ECONOMYNEXT – Security Forces in the Vanni region have been warned to be wary of handling parcels left near their camps after one of them was found with what was described as “Low Explosive,” military sources said.
One of the parcels had contained a doll placed inside a box and a flame had erupted from it when a Security Forces officer opened it.
The officer was not injured.
These sources said that the parcel had contained a quantity of powder, the kind of explosive used to make firecrackers.
Another parcel had been defused by the Bomb Squad and was found with bits of metal, the same Low Explosive and a switch.
General orders have been given for foot patrols coming across such objects to be cautious and call in the Bomb Squad to deal with them.
Investigations are being conducted to find out who is responsible for these parcels the sources said. (Colombo, June 15, 2020)
