Vietnam, Cambodia finds Coronavirus in the community ending Covid-19 free period
ECONOMYNEXT – Vietnam has found Coronavirus patient in the community after 87 days from a quarantine leak involving a flight attendant and Cambodia has also found Covid-19, community after a long gap.
The local transmission case involved an English teacher who had come into contact with an infected flight attendant, Vietnam’s government information portal said.
The flight attendant had been at a Vietnam Airlines quarantine facility in Ho Chi Minh city from November 14 – 18.
After testing positive twice, he had been sent on home quarantine at his home in Binh Thanh District,
Vietnam usually keeps foreign returnees in quarantine for two weeks. It is not clear why he was sent home after four days.
At a test conducted in home quarantine on November 28, he had tested positive.
He had come into contact with his mother, two friends and the English teacher, who have been quarantined and tested.
Vietnam had confirmed 1,347 Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths.
In Cambodia on November 28, a wife of a senior Interior Ministry official had tested positive.
She had attended a community event on November 28. Over 3000 samples had been taken for testing on November 29 and 30. The second test will be on December 08 and the third on December 12, Phnom Penn Times reported.
All gatherings have been suspended.
Prime Minister Hun Sen asked weddings also to be suspended for 15 days.
“f there is a marriage, please apologise and suspend the marriage for 15 days,” he said.
“If we don’t do this, it will be late for us … so please implement these urgently.”
So far 14 Covid-19 cases had been confirmed.
Up to November Cambodia had confirmed 301 cases and no deaths. (Colombo/Nov30/2030-sb)
