ECONOMYNEXT – The Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka and expatriate member Nguyen Kim Ha, was recognized by authorities for the work done in the host country and for helping strengthen ties between the two countries at a ceremony in the capital Hanoi.
The Spring Home 2026 festival saw the participation of delegates from over 40 countries chosen as exemplary overseas citizens, recognized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
They represented an estimated seven million overseas Vietnamese.
“Many intellectuals, scientists, experts and entrepreneurs have made significant contributions to the fields of science, technology, education, training, investment trade promotion and culture, and the image of the country,” Vietnam leader To Lam told the delegates at a meeting in Hanoi.
“Many teachers persevere in preserving and spreading the Vietnamese language and culture to younger generations born and raised abroad, maintaining the connection to their roots.
The Spring Home Festival 2026 was held around the time of Tet, the Vietnamese New year.
At the 14th Party Congress this year, a new drive for development was started, with the overarching principle that the people are the foundation, the subject and goal of development, and the overseas community was an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation.
“We hope that all compatriots at home and abroad will continue to uphold the national spirit of patriotism, self-reliance and self-strengthening, consolidating national unity.
“The party and state will always welcome and create favorable conditions for intellectuals, experts, scientists and entrepreneurs to contribute even more to the cause of national development especially in key areas for the new stage of national development.
“The Party and State will continue to improve policies for Vietnamese and foreigners while strengthening international co-operation to protect the legitimate rights and interests of our compatriots, helping them to live, work and develop peacefully in their host countries.”
The Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka to recognize achievements in community building, solidarity and positive contributions to the country as well as the local society in recent years, Vietnam’s Baoquote.vn portal reported.
Community member Nguyen Kim Ha was also recognized with a personal Certificate of Merit for promoting education and economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and contributions to community work.
The Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka, is small but very united and works together, Kim Ha told BolsaTV in an interview. The community is now led by Nguyen Thi Mai Trinh.
The Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka has gone through Covid-19 and an economic crisis.
“As a child of Vietnam, no matter where you go, no matter how far you are, you must always remember that you are a child of your homeland, Vietnam and preserve your identity,” she said.
“Furthermore, you should strive to learn and gain knowledge and contribute to the development of your homeland and the country where you live.”
She said she was nominated by Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam.
In addition to meeting General Secretary To Lam at the Party Central Office, the delegates also attended a special art program with the participation of President Luong Cuong.
“This is a great honor for the Vietnamese Community in Sri Lanka, reflecting the attention and recognition of the Party and the State toward the community’s persistent efforts, spirit of solidarity, preservation of national cultural identity, and resilience in overcoming challenges, while actively contributing to the development of the host country,” the Vietnam embassy in Colombo said in a social media post.
