Viraj Dayaratne appointed Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission
ECONOMYNEXT- Attorney Viraj Dayaratne has been appointed as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, an official statement said.
Dayaratne was earlier an Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General’s Department.
A President’s Counsel, he has over 27 years of experience on both civil and criminal matters in the original and appellate courts.
Dayaratne holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Colombo and a Master of Laws specializing in International Trade Law from the University of Wales.
He has served as a legal expert to the Ministry of Defense, Sultanate of Oman from the year 2009 to 2011.
Dayaratne is a visiting Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Republic of Fiji and an Adjudicator of the Panel of Adjudicators of Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC).
He also functioned as Judge Advocate to the Air Force of Sri Lanka and as a Lecturer and an Examiner of the Sri Lanka Law College. (Colombo/Jan22/2020)
