Vote for Sajith to continue mega projects -PM
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that all mega projects which were launched by the current government would proceed under an administration headed by New Democratic Front (NDF) presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
Addressing a forum organised by ‘Nursing Professionals for a New Sri Lanka’ in Colombo today (29 Oct) Wickremesinghe said people needed to decide whether they wanted the mega-development projects planned by the present regime to be implemented.
Further, he said that the current government is extending the Southern Expressway up to Hambantota and that a joint venture will be formed between the Sri Lankan and Indian Aviation Authorities to run the Mattala Airport.
Wickremesinghe said that there will be a number of economic zones as well as six tourism zones. “Are we going to implement these or not? These will go ahead if the people elect Premadasa as Executive presidency,” he added.
He also said that no other government had spent so much on education and healthcare as the present government, as over 9,000 schools have reaped the harvest of the ‘Langama Pasala Hondama Pasala’ programme.
“Teachers are being trained today. There are no untrained teachers in this sector. School children have been placed under the Suraksha insurance scheme. Transfers and promotions have been depoliticised. Examinations are being conducted by the Public Service Commission (PSC). Salaries and allowances have been increased,” the Prime Minister went on to say.
He said despite facing difficult times and the economy hit by various crises, and salary increments the government continued with the Samurdhi scheme.
The Prime Minister said that the current government could have said that they cannot do all these and blamed the previous government, “but we did not do so”. But he said that we pledged to stabilise the economy and achieved that.
