ECONOMYNEXT – Foreign investors in a range of sectors from organic food to hotels showed interest in Sri Lanka during the World Export Development Forum (WEDF) held in Colombo this week, an official said.
Priority sectors selected to be highlighted at the WEDF included specialty food, apparel and textiles, information technology, and tourism, said International Trade Centre Executive Director Arancha Gonzalez.
The event helped Sri Lankan companies make contact with potential investors, she told a news conference at the closing session of the forum.
“Discussions are ongoing, contacts were established, with the initial meeting continuing with a visit to factory premises,” Gonzalez said,
An Australian firm had shown interest in apparel produced in Sri Lanka, a French firm in organic coconuts and spices, and hotel investors from Thailand and Switzerland were interested in investing in Sri Lanka.
