Yasushi Akashi presented ‘Sri Lanka Rathna’ award
Senior Japanese diplomat and Japan’s peace envoy to Sri Lanka Yasushi Akashi was presented the Sri Lanka Rathna award by President Maithripala Sirisena at the National Awards Ceremony 2019 held yesterday (19) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
Sri Lanka Rathna is a Sri Lankan honour awarded to foreign nationals recognising “exceptional and outstanding service” rendered to Sri Lankans and humanity in general.
Seventy Sri Lankans were also awarded National Honors at the ceremony for “outstanding service to the motherland”.
Ten Deshabandu awards, six Vidya Jyothi awards, nine Kala Keerthi awards, eight Sri Lanka Sikhamani awards, three Vidya Nidhi awards, eleven Kala Shoori awards, eleven Sri Lanka Thilaka awards, two Veera Prathapa awards and three Sri Lanka Ranjana awards were presented to distinguished persons for their service.
