Sri Lanka stocks end higher

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stock market close 1.22 percent higher on Tuesday continuing the surge for the second day, pushed up by index heavy Ceylon Tobacco Company, Browns Investments and Vallibel One Plc, Colombo Stock Exchange Provisional Data showed.

Colombo’s All share price index gained 1.22 percent or 83.88 points to close at 6,978.86.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks gained 0.79 percent or 21.20 points to close at 2,708.65.

The market turnover was 6.1 billion rupees with 129 stocks gaining and 66 falling.

Net foreign sales was 264 million rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company contributed most to the ASPI gain, closing 25.00 rupees up at 1,116.60 rupees a share.

Browns Investments gained 30 cents a share to close at 5.10 rupees and Vallible One Plc closed 2.40 rupees up at 29.90 rupees a share.

In the banking sector Hatton National Bank gained 60 cents to close at 129.40 rupees, Sampath Bank closed 1.70 rupees up at 142.50 rupees a share and DFCC Bank gained 90 cents to close at 66.00 rupees while Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 10 cents down at 83.20 rupees.

In the hotel sector Eden Hotel Lanka closed 40 cents up at 12.00 rupees a share, Aitken Spence Hotel holdings gained 90 cents to close at 33.40 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed 40 cents up at 150.00 rupees a share and Sigiriya Village hotel closed 60 cents up at 36.50.

Distilleries Company closed 50 cents up at 21.30 rupees and Melstacorp Plc closed 70 cents up at 54.60 rupees a share while Sri Lanka telecom closed 10 cents up at 33.90 rupees a share.





John Keells Holdings closed 40 cents up at 150.00 rupees and LOLC Holdings closed 3.60 rupees up at 142.70 rupees a share.

Expolanka Holdings gained 1.10 rupees to close at 32.00 rupees while Ceylon Cold Company closed 90 cents up at 705.90 rupees a share.

Hayles Plc closed 4.00 rupees up at 419.20 rupees and Softlogic Holdings closed 20 cents up at 12.40 rupees.

Tokyo Cement Company gained 60 cents to close at 80.50 rupees and Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 10 cents up at 9.40 rupees a share.

Nestle Lanka gained 8.30 rupees to close at 1,331.10 rupees a share and Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents up at 12.50 rupees.

Aitken Spence Plc closed 30 cents up at 58.00 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 2.70 rupees up at 284.90 rupees.

Dipped products gained 2.80 rupees to close at 345.80 rupees a share while Haycarb gained 4.70 rupees to close at 580.50 rupees.

Lanka Ceramic closed 1.60 rupees down at 137.50 rupees a share while Royal Ceramic Lanka gained 5.70 rupees to close at 187.80 rupees a share.

The Food, Beverage and Tobacco industry was the most active, gained 1.5 percent. (Colombo/January 04/2021)
